The Arkansas State Police is saddened to hear of the passing of former ASP Commissioner Dr. Bob Burns.
Dr. Burns was appointed to the Arkansas State Police Commission by former Arkansas Governor Mike Beebe in 2013 and served until 2020. He was a founding member of the Arkansas State Police Foundation and received the Trooper Ermon Cox Award for his support of the Foundation and is a member of the Arkansas State Police Hall of Fame.
He was a retired colonel from the U.S. Army and earned the Bronze Star and Purple Heart among other awards during his service. He also held multiple degrees in education and banking as well as a doctorate in education.
For 40 years, Dr. Burns was the CEO and President of Farmers Bank and Trust in Magnolia and devoted his time and energy to numerous boards, task forces, and committees for organizations serving the Magnolia community and the state of Arkansas.
